Hawaii Eats
Hawaii Eats 🌺
Yes, I live in Hawaii. And yes, I’m grateful for that every day. One of the gifts of being here is getting to eat what this place produces.
Today’s meal is a small celebration of that:
• Bread — locally baked
• Lettuce — locally grown
• Fish — locally caught
• Pesto — locally produced
The photo is my view as I sit on the ground and prepare to have another bite of the food I am holding. My container underneath my hand and my left foot with painted toes are the natural setting.
This is what eating in Hawaii can look like when paying attention to where food comes from.
The bread was made by a devoted husband and father whose hands shaped the dough.
The lettuce grew on a property nearby, farmed by an older couple.
The fish swam in the ocean water I see every day. The fisherman who caught it also skinned and deboned it.
The pesto was made by a beautiful local woman, using basil and other herbs from her own garden.
Eating food from the island is a practice, and one I’m grateful to participate in. I get to know where the food comes from, the people who grow, catch, and make the food, and even the people who sell the food. The practice also gives me the opportunity to have a relationship with the people behind the food. This makes me more aware of the energy the land, ocean, and people use to create the food I eat from the island.
Welcome to the meal

I share my experiences and my perspective. Eating and healing look different for everyone. If you are struggling with food or your relationship with your body, please find support. You don’t have to do this alone.
