Eat Well
Eating well is important for experiencing life differently. As someone who has had a love-hate relationship with food, I am honored to share my challenges, learnings, and life with eating food. My desire is to encourage you to be more aware of the foods you eat. Eat Well is a six month series. Aloha
I share my experiences and my perspective. Eating and healing look different for everyone. If you are struggling with food or your relationship with your body, please find support. You don’t have to do this alone.

Turmeric Tonic
Friends of mine created their own version of a turmeric tonic, and it is delicious and nutrient dense.
Ginger Banana Snack
A girlfriend of mine dehydrates bananas and ginger together and creates a delicious and nutritious snack. My guess is she blends them first, pours the mixture onto something flat, and then dehydrates it.
Flour Tortilla
Today I am eating whole wheat flour tortillas that were made on one of the islands here in Hawaii.
Ulu From a Jar
There is a farmer at the farmers market who sells jars of ulu, also known as breadfruit. He’s not at the market every Friday, so when he is there selling his ulu, I buy some.
What It Takes To Look Carefree
It is common to see me walking wherever I am living or visiting. I enjoy experiencing life one step at a time at the pace of my feet. I get to smile and appreciate more of my immediate surroundings. This carefree attitude I exhibit comes with taking care of myself and my responsibilities first.
What’s So Great About Banana Plants?
Until I moved to Hawaii thirteen years ago, I did not know about a banana plant. Here are four reasons I think banana plants are great.
Sweet Potato Leaves
At the market I was taught how to prepare and cook sweet potato greens. You break each leaf off at the end of its stem. Then you put the leaves in boiling water for one minute.
What Is Noni?
Noni is a fruit that grows on a small evergreen tree with large, waxy, dark green leaves.
I Made A Withdrawal Today
I went to the market with limited funds, so I knew I was going to ask people if I could pay them next week.
Why the Food In My Container Is Significant Today
Today my lunch has rice and potatoes in it, and I put them there on purpose. This is significant because I used to be afraid of carbohydrates.
Tiny Rocks
I made a green bean salad this morning. The salad consisted of chopped green beans, almonds, blue cheese, two avocados, rice, and a scoop of pesto.
Avocado - A Nutrient Dense Food
Today I am showcasing a very special and nutrient dense food, the avocado.
Health Comes Before Work
I let my work interfere with listening to my body. That is what I learned in the last two weeks.
Abundance of Avocados
The morning after a recent storm, I went outside and gathered about two dozen avocados off the ground. The storm was milder than expected, but the wind still knocked some banana plants over and dropped avocados early. I wondered whether the avocados would ripen.
