What’s On My Plate
Today on my plate (or in my container):
Ground Sausage (cooked with onions)
Mixed Beans(cooked with jalapeños and garlic)
Blue Cheese
Greens (collards, arugula, spicy greens, cilantro, garlic chives)
Red Pepper
Papaya Salad
Tortilla (on the side)
Packaging this food was easy and quick because everything was prepared and stored in the refrigerator.
I grabbed some handfuls of greens and placed them in the bottom of my container. Then, I poured in the remaining ground sausage and then the remaining beans. Next, I cut up the red pepper and placed that on top of of the beans. Going back into the refrigerator for the blue cheese, I saw the papaya salad and grabbed that too. I dumped in the papaya salad and placed in the remaining chunk of blue cheese. I folded up the tortilla and placed it in the bag with my dried bananas.
The ground sausage, greens, and papaya salad came from the local farmer’s market. The red pepper and blue cheese I got from a food store on the other side of the island. The tortillas, made on another Hawaiian island, came from a store in town.
The meal was runny and soggy because of the liquid from the sausage, beans, and papaya salad. I used my Thai spoon to mix the foods together and then pile a mixture of the ingredients into the tortilla. Juices flowed from both ends of the tortilla and landed on my ankle. As I took a bite of everything, some of the inside fell onto my sarong I was sitting on. What a messy and flavorful meal.
I share What’s On My Plate posts to show what my daily eating looks like and what nourishing, energizing food can be.
