Challenge 1 — Nutrient-Dense Up, Processed/Added Sugar Down
I believe eating nutrient dense food is 100% beneficial. Therefore, I present this easy and fun challenge. For 7 days, increase the nutrient dense food you eat and decrease the processed food and added sugar by 50%.
I challenge you with 50%, not 100%, because the goal is for you to become more aware. Increasing and decreasing by 50% can be enough for you to feel the difference between nourishing your body versus not nourishing your body.
Nutrient dense food means a lot of nourishment in a small amount of food. For example, think of a handful of nuts next to a handful of chips. The nuts give your body protein, healthy fat, fiber, and minerals; whereas, the chips give mostly just fuel and very little else. This matters because fuel without nourishment is quick energy and leaves the body wanting more.
Complex carbohydrates, protein, fat, fiber, and minerals are what the body uses to actually build and run itself. Complex carbohydrates give the body steady, lasting energy. Protein repairs muscle and tissue. Healthy fats fuel the brain and help the body absorb other nutrients. Fiber slows digestion, so energy releases steadily instead of spiking and crashing. Minerals support everything from bone strength to nerve and muscle function.
To get ideas of nutrient dense food, you can google the following prompt. “List of nutrient-dense foods by category (protein, vegetables, fruit, fats)”
I challenge you with 7 days because 7 days is a small enough commitment to keep. Start now, and in 7 days, you can look back and have new information about food and your eating.
Same input equals same output.
Different input equals different output.
If you desire to make a change, then I encourage you to do the 7 day challenge for yourself. Commit to doing 7 days of different.
You are welcome to eat more nutrient dense food.
