Eating Well Begins Before the First Bite

Eating well begins the very moment you decide to buy food. This includes food from a market, a grocery store, or off a menu. When buying food that is packaged with a label, reading the ingredients and where it comes from can be helpful. Buying food from people who are closer to the source (like meat from a hunter, fish from the fisherman, fruits and vegetables from a farmer) can help with being  more aware with the treatment (handling) of the animals and plants and where the food is coming from. Being aware when ordering food might look like asking what’s in the dish or even choosing a specific place with intention. For years, when I ate solely vegetarian food, I would buy food from places that made vegetarian meals. I was choosing with intention.

People’s meals look different around the world. People use different foods to nourish themselves. Wherever you are, the moment you choose to buy food, that is the moment you choose how to nourish yourself.

I intentionally stay away from purchasing alcohol, chips, sodas, and foods with a lot of extra added sugar because none of those give me nourishment. If I buy what is nourishing, then I will eat what is nourishing. When I bought what was not nourishing, I ate what was not nourishing.

Intentional awareness when buying food can bring more awareness to your eating.

You are welcome to shop with more awareness of your food.
