The Ball
When I eat, I usually sit on a ball.
The ball is a bright yellow softball, the kind used in the game of softball.
For me, sitting on the ball is physically and mentally calming. The pressure my body receives helps quiet my mind and still my internal energy. I am able to bring my attention to a single focus. When I sit on the ball to eat, I am aware of my body, the food, and the nourishment.
I sit on the ball almost anytime I sit. When I am not on the ball, I prefer a hard surface over a soft one.
I do not fully understand what happens biologically when I sit on the ball. What I know is that it keeps me here, in my body, with my food. Eating becomes something I do with attention rather than distraction.
You are welcome to eat however keeps you present.

I share my experiences and my perspective. Eating and healing look different for everyone. If you are struggling with food or your relationship with your body, please find support. You don’t have to do this alone.
